Re: Gun show Krag prices!

Gun show prices here in Canada for US Krags have skyrocketed in the last year or so. I'm unsure why the Krags specifically, but you can't find any Model 1898 rifles or 1899 carbines for less than 4,000cdn, it's gotten ridiculous. I can get an original Webley-Pryse no.4 for less than that. Even the c...

Re: European Krag book?

Hey! Not to dissapoint but for European Krags there isn't that much out there. Karl Hanevik has a great book on Norwegian arms which has a large focus on the krag, but its all in Norwegian and was printed in the 90s. I believe you can still buy them on his website and would recommend it, its quite a...

Re: Pictures for A Krag Book!

Quite the undertaking. I am always interested in new opinions and research regarding the US Krag firearms. I enjoy reading a lot of others' work but do not have the time nor resources to travel and do primary research which is necessary to write something new and fresh like Joe Farmer has done. His...

Re: Pictures for A Krag Book!

Far from done, but it's getting there! I'll give y'all an update: The Danish section of the book is essentially complete, as I got hundreds of documents scanned from the Rigsarkivet in Copenhagen which aided in understanding the trials/experiments which led to the carbine models of Krag, their produ...

Re: Info on stomperud krag

Hi! The Kongsberg Weapons History Association (Kongsberg Våpenhistoriske Forening) has a website that details a bunch of things Kongsberg produced throughout it's lifetime, and has some informational sections on the different models of Norwegian Krags that are in Norwegian and English (just right cl...

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Krag originally did develop his magazine systems to be able to work with a variety of rifle systems. During danish trials the first rifles which used the magazine were the Jarmann, but the idea of pairing it with a Mauser action was also considered. Krag also made experimental magazines for the Gras...

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Something interesting about this is the magazine gate as well. MOD B/1886 and serial 16 (1888) both have the same style of magazine door/gate, but this has a different version. One of the other 1887 models, produced as a sporting-style carbine, also has the same magazine gate as MOD B/1886 and seria...

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

At this point in time the cartridge would have been an experimental version of 8x58R called Dansk 8 mm forsøgspatron , using compressed black powder to propel the projectile (as smokeless-powder ammunition was not developed for the Danish krag until just before the rifle's adoption). There was testi...

Re: 1887 Prototype #5

Great photos! Thanks for posting about it. I like how you can see even more influence from the Jarmann bolt design in this early model, the extractor looks even more like the Jarmann extractor it was based on.

I will share more as I learn more.
Fantastic! Can't wait to learn more/see more about it.

Also, if you're willing to take some additional photos I could use in my book, let me know!
