Re: Building rear sight

That's the general idea which is why I plan on shooting the cr%$ out of it and the problem seeing how I keep buying more rifles hehehe. It's shoots lights out. I took it to the range with 168g hpbt and shot a 1 moa group with 3 shoots. Every bit as accurate as my scoped 1903a3. Super fun gun. I'm go...

Re: Building rear sight

Yes that's exactly what I was thinking. I was just more curious if other parts had variants. The rear sight and barrel would be the Carbine specific parts I imagine. I planning on shooting the cr%$ out of it since it's not a collector's rifle. Years from now I can always get a Criterion 22" bar...

Re: Building rear sight

I'm sure it was a barreled action for a rifle but technically are the other parts also the same used on a Carbine like the bolt, receiver etc? So the main part that can't be Carbine is the barrel and front sight? Or did the Carbine use a different style bolt etc?

Re: Building rear sight

I was thinking the exact same thing about S&S. My eyes are probably ok for now. I plan on using the peep on my 1903 which I haven't shot yet. I wonder if drilling the hole a little bigger is something people have done. It does look really small.

Re: Building rear sight

Thank you. I'll use the search on this site more and see what I find. The company emailed back saying they no long make Krag handguards so that idea might not happen. I think I saw another place but it was unfinished and needed to be drilled and trimmed still. S&S I was able to put my email addr...

Re: Building rear sight

I mentioned I might get a repro 1898 handguard to match the 1898 sight base but I should ask, Do I need to change anything else to get it to fit? Will my current barrel band work? Is it the right length to correspond with the stock I currently have? If not then I won't change anything. It's just a f...

Re: Building rear sight

Great idea. I have the actual pin I took out of it also and I have some thin nails so that can work also.

Re: Building rear sight

For drilling a hole into the sight blade I have should I punch a guide dent and sit on it with a slow move drill until it gets farther in? I don't have a press just a hand drill.

Re: Building rear sight

I found a place selling new repro handguards. An 1898 is $95 with shipping so I can stain it and put the 1898 base and at least that will match. In the long run I'll do that and shoot the heck out of it. I'm totally fine with it. I wish it was the $2k+ rifle I thought it was but I only paid $2k for ...

Re: Building rear sight

Some better pics of the front sight. What I noticed when I googled after getting it was that the front sights of other krags had a longer front sight base. Are you pointing at the base or that it looks more rough where it's mounted? I'm surprised they didn't do the usual thing and put a 1903 front s...
