Re: bought my first Krag - help needed with dating the rifle
Your metal looks good and has been together for a long long time. Now hunt up some ammunition! Will do - I'm on the hunt for some ammo for sure. Also, how hard would it be to find an unsanded Krag stock? Would it be worth just replacing the wood to make the rifle nicer? Does anyone know how much a ...

Re: bought my first Krag - help needed with dating the rifle
Bore is very good - maybe a little dark though but with strong rifling. I have attached a few more pictures showing the action as well as the barrel and bands. Leems like the finish on the bands has turned to patina faster than the finish on the barrel which looks stronger - is that common?

Re: bought my first Krag - help needed with dating the rifle

It seems that the body itself is very white, but the bolt handle is slightly oxidized. I have attached pictures of the bolt from three angles - ...

Re: bought my first Krag - help needed with dating the rifle
Thank you for the replies. Here are some nice photos I took of the left and right sides at the gun store where the lighting was good.

bought my first Krag - help needed with dating the rifle
Hello, I have been interested in Krag rifles for a while but I never saw one come up for sale locally - that is until yesterday. The local gun store had an 1898 Krag rifle for sale that looked to be in original military configuration and unsporterized. I went ahead and bought it without knowing much...
