Re: General questions about rifle

The sights look a little rough but I am sure it will clean up. I do plan on refinishing the rifle eventually, but I am about to go to school, and until then will just keep the rifle well oiled.

Re: General questions about rifle

Sorry guys I have been busy - Here are some of the requested pictures, pardon some of the rusting- I have kept the rifle inside the house and kept the outside oiled up. I am getting some WD40 and Ballistol and will attempt to lightly clean the rifle up with some 0000 steel wool.

Re: General questions about rifle

Want to thank FredC, LeadSnowstorm, Knute 1, and Butlersrangers for your suggestions and help with my rifle. Re: General questions about rifle

The above info by BR makes me curious of the opposite side of the rifle. A cheekpiece view of the rifle would be great. I did have to edit the picture a bit because I keep getting the "image is too large prompt" but here is the cheekpiece. The 1940 Bishop stock that Butlersrangers posted ...

Re: General questions about rifle

I have looked around on the internet and it seems that my serial number indicates that it is an 1899 Krag instead of 1898. Krags are complicated beasts with Byzantine histories. In this case, there are two things to consider. First, "Model 1898" rifles were made each year from 1898 to 190...

Re: General questions about rifle

Welcome to the KCA. Front sight does look too tall for a carbine. Close ups will tell more. The stock looks like an after market sporter stock. I see no splice marks to indicate it started out as original. Also no barrel band is seen. Is it possible that a band is holding down the barrel but not se...
