Re: What to do now?

I have not slugged the bore but will do that soon. The bore appears to have lots of rifling but there is some darkness in the grooves. I will report back. Dave

Re: What to do now?

BR, thanks for the reply. All good points. The rifle had been all checked out. I had also tried some cast bullet loads in both and they acted exactly the same way. Small group for the carbine and a large group for the rifle. I really think that the barrel/bore is the problem. Are barrels being made ...

What to do now?

I have a carbine and a rifle, both in 6.5x55. I had loaded six with 32 grains of 4350 with a 140 grain Hornady Match bullets. I fired three shots from each from a bench at 50 yards. The carbine put three in a 1/3” group with two touching. The rifle shot three into about 4”. I suspect the rifle has a...

Krag in 6.5x54 MS

I see one for sale here. Just curious. Completely sported. Rear sight and front sight are not original and a butt pad has been added. This cartridge…..were any built in that or was it rebarreled? Dave

Re: Serial number???

I realize I get the knowledge of many great board members by posting here. I have purchased two Norwegian Krags over the last couple years. Both were cut down. But, I got good advise here and paid little for either of them. This one is as close to a genuine Krag as I have seen. The price is $1,300.0...

Re: Serial number???

Culpeper, I am having trouble deciding if you are telling me this is indeed a genuine 1896 carbine or that it is not. I added the only other photos I have. The seller is not being much help to me. I am not sure if he is being straight or not. Dave

Re: Serial number???

Model 1898 Springfield Armoury is stamped on that plate. Dave..??….is it just my eyes or does the last digit look altered from a six to an eight? And why? Does it look like it is all there? Is it a genuine carbine? I am beginning to believe it may be correct for an 1896 carbine. IMG_1192.jpeg IMG_11...

Re: Looking for help. 1898 carbine??

Thanks for the replies here. I thought myself that the stock looked new. I also thought it interesting that the photos show what the seller wants us to see. Also, seeing an advertisement with so few particulars tells a story in itself. No condition of the bore. No indication if the seller ever fired...
