Great finds! STOLE the 1892 rod!

Question - how many rod holes in the carbine stock? If two, you REALLY scored. That is a VERY early carbine and well could be a two-holer; I own 24893. The late Bill Mook said he could account for just SEVEN such, including mine.

Hammer's new box (nice front!) is definitely trapdoor, NOT Krag. And, not all McKeevers have the tool recess - that was added with the second pattern. Hopefully you have fixed it. If the lip is no longer being hit by the follower, there should be no reason for it to come loose. FWIW (not a great deal) I've never seen a loose lip. Interesting serial number! Assuming that it has not been cut-down, how long is the barrel (30" or 26"), and what is the highest number on the rear sight , 20 or 21?

How many really excellent (95% +) originals are left? The last were made almost 120 years ago. And the demand simply wasn't there for most of that time. If I wanted a near-original and IF I could afford a G&H restoration, I'd strongly consider it. To each his own, of course, and it IS an exquis...

While admitting that the end result IS beautiful, the entire process would NOT be my cup of tea. I would FAR rather have a 98-99% un-touched original, than the gussied-up items. Ahhh, good old Ebay - should have checked first before last post. I have the 6oz. cans, some loose, some in sealed HEAVY cardboard cartons. Condition is NOS, basically "mint", not scuffed up like some of the Ebay photos. Will advise quantities and prices soon.
