Re: Krag RIA Ammo Leather Case
While not impossible, using a TD "box" for Krag would not be the best fit - that is why the Krag boxes are slightly narrower and taller, in the same sense that the .50-70 McKeevers (pretty rare) were wider/longer. The pic above showing two tools in one box would not work in practice. And -...

Great finds! STOLE the 1892 rod!
Question - how many rod holes in the carbine stock? If two, you REALLY scored. That is a VERY early carbine and well could be a two-holer; I own 24893. The late Bill Mook said he could account for just SEVEN such, including mine.

Re: Parkhurst carbine
Great story. My dealings - with Phil Siess ( don't know where he fits in the family tree) - have always been first-rate.

Re: Krag RIA Ammo Leather Case
Hammer's new box (nice front!) is definitely trapdoor, NOT Krag. And, not all McKeevers have the tool recess - that was added with the second pattern. Most McKeevers did not have the brass corner tabs. The Krag (also used for the M1903) boxes were taller (as in BR's photo) and always of russet - not...

Re: Guide Lip Issue
Hopefully you have fixed it. If the lip is no longer being hit by the follower, there should be no reason for it to come loose. FWIW (not a great deal) I've never seen a loose lip. Even if you could get the proper parts, setting the rivet would likely need a holding jig. Keeping my fingers crossed f...

Interesting serial number! Assuming that it has not been cut-down, how long is the barrel (30" or 26"), and what is the highest number on the rear sight , 20 or 21?

Re: Two Krag1898 Rifles Restoration Complete
How many really excellent (95% +) originals are left? The last were made almost 120 years ago. And the demand simply wasn't there for most of that time. If I wanted a near-original and IF I could afford a G&H restoration, I'd strongly consider it. To each his own, of course, and it IS an exquis...

Re: Two Krag1898 Rifles Restoration Complete
While admitting that the end result IS beautiful, the entire process would NOT be my cup of tea. I would FAR rather have a 98-99% un-touched original, than the gussied-up items. An example is the hand-fitted buttplates, and the comments that the bands are 'not quite' interchangeable - not SA practic...

Re: Parkhurst carbine
Would it be possible to alter a 762x54 moisin nagant stripper clip to use the 30-40 round? The difference between the two cartridge's rim diameter is 0.025. For display or to see how it functions. It would be a bit cheaper. Cheaper, yes - and definitely better for using, considering that elaboratel...

Re: Parkhurst carbine
S and S shows the clip for sale on their site. [https://www.ssfirearms.com/proddetail.asp?prod=K574] That was where I first heard of the device, back in the 70s. Was going to get one, never did. I'd jump on that one! Never know when you'll see another. As to the finish, I'd probably do a GENTLE cle...
