Re: 1898 Krag sights

One last question before I head over the hill. My gunsmith I'm sure will have some input also but I'm wondering if it should still have some sort of barrel band for stability? Now without trying to keep it Krag looking I'm wondering if he will suggest some under the stock screw to some mounting he c...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

Thanks Ned That is pretty much my thinking lately. I was going to do much of this myself but one of my smiths now has some time and I am headed his way in an hour. Rather than try to gather all of the period and piece correct parts this on can stay a nice conversation worthy sporter. Looks like I'll...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

So now i am in go mode and trying to decide a couple things. Even though this is going to remain a sporter with a new laminate stock, should i change both sights to more period and carbine style? It sounds like the front sight is incorrect as well as the rear. If I can get a correct period front sig...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

I have some pics of the stock I believe to be a Krag. The only remaining hardware on it is the spring loaded barrel band which is in perfect working order. I am thinking of mounting on the new sporter stocre somek but not definite on it yet. When I click on add the image it doesn't let me load it fr...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

I have an old stock in a closet that I believe to be a Krag carbine. It has a front barrel band that is solid with no screw and no sling ring. There is a roughly 3 inch long by 1/8" "spring" inlayed in the forend that I believe to allow quick disassembly of the firearm and taking the ...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

Many of you may think I am crazy. I love my original Krags but the beat up sported model i found several months ago I am getting ready to put it together again. It's going to remain a sporter. I thought long and hard about it but finally settled on a Richard's Microfit laminate stock in Irish Moss G...

Re: .22 cal target Krag

I responded, I thought, but it looks like it was lost or I put it somewhere else perhaps the wrong forum topic. I believe I misrepresented the question. I am referring to the .22 caliber Krags that were used for target practice and training. I have no other intel only what I have found on the web. I...

Re: .22 cal target Krag

I phrased the question incorrectly. I was referring to the .22 caliber target/practice Krags. I have seen some photos but have never had my hands on one at a show or auction and I don't see them for sale on places like GB. Just curious if you guys had one and even if not what would be the approximat...

Re: 1898 Krag sights

It makes sense now. I just picked this up the day I posted and really hadn't done any real looking although I did question why the knurled sight adjustment knob was on the left and not the right. The number increments on the side are also backwards. With the naked eye, and mine are stark naked, I co...
