Re: More Pics 1897 Krag
They sometimes rotate with the opening and closing of the magazine. They're not supposed to though. The fix is a very careful bending down of the leaf so that it fits in the slot that retains it. Making sure the pin is lubricated can help too.

Re: Safety for scope use
Someone did quite a job of getting that scope mounted as low as possible. Dick is right, that's a Buehler safety. The only other low scope safety I'm aware of was made by Wlter H. Loewick of Portland OR. I can't say if it would operate any lower or not. If the Buehler works, I wouldn't fret over it ...

Re: New Member
Except on many barrels sold by gunparts corp (numrich) at one time. Lots of leaning front sight studs on those barrels, I've read, but I'm sure even that wasn't intentional.

Looks like he has it angled right, it might even eject like it's supposed to.

Re: Rebarreling my 1898 Rifle for Competition
Yea, next year. I don't know about your 220s, but the FMJ 220s I'm going to sell you have quite a bit of taper to them. At 3.169", they're still not into the rifling of my parked Krag. At 3.245" they're in there with about 1/4" of the shank in the neck. Quite over max magazine length....

Re: Rebarreling my 1898 Rifle for Competition
Keith, the shooting is done from 200yds. You might find a local club that goes a longer distance, but there aren't many that have a longer range. I sometimes shoot mine in regular highpower matches at a club that goes from 200 to their max range of 300 for a rapid fire string. Then we shoot the last...

Re: Rebarreling my 1898 Rifle for Competition
My parked Krag is going to need another barrel. I've managed to ring the chamber up in the neck, by using fillers with cast bullet loads. I was using Puf-Lon and I tamped some of it down in the case too hard on one load. I've read a lot of other posts about ringed Krag barrels on other boards. Steel...

Re: Rear Sight Idea for Older Eyes
I'm not going as far as you since I'm shooting in Vintage matches, but I did do a couple things to help the sight picture on my 92/96. First I increased the width of the front blade to .080" by putting a few wraps of aluminum tape around the blade and trimming the tape to the same height as the...

Re: Non lead hunting loads
I could have some fun with the game wardens out there! Babbitts marked Genuine don't have lead in them and there's a host of other tin based babbitts that don't. I'd become a cast bullet hunter, especially considering the relatively low working pressure of the Krag. The burden of proof is on the pro...
