Re: Have a chance to buy this 1898 serial# 208314

The weapon shows all the normal indications of a cut down rifle. The stock is definitely a cut down rifle stock. the pin that retains the barrel band is a dead giveaway, carbines had an in-letted spring retaining clip. The stock portion froward of the retaining band is much to long, probably done at...

Re: Possible 1898 Krag NRA Carbine

My 1901 rifle sights are graduated to 2000 and the same 1901 carbine is graduated to 2300. This site has numerous pictures of most Krag variants, including sights, worth a look.

Re: 1898 front band

Just a thought, you might want to consider adding a fore arm to your existing stock to bring it back to rifle length. I you have some woodworking skills it is a very economical alternative to stock replacement. Might ease the sticker shock for the upper band. I've done a couple, and while they are n...

Re: Recommendatons for reloading 180 grain sp for Krag

I have been loading and firing 150gr nosler BT over 40gr of 3031 for several years now. In my carbine barrel it shoots very well (+/- 2" @100yds) and the burn is uniform on the cases. The CUP is comparable to 4320 around 39,000 and the recoil is mild. I neck size and have some with 3 reloads on...

The mounting hole appears to be an original rear sight mounting hole, it is the current sight that has been added.

Re: Mystery rifle! Can anyone identify it?

Since the shovel was closely associated with the trench warfare of WWI I would have to agree, it is either an '03 or a P17.
