Re: Krag side-plate mount

I think that would be a fun project and would only require altering a side plate and barrel band. It would probably be more comfortable if you shoot right handed, but, could sight with your left-eye.<br /><br />I would love to study one of these mounts. It appears the front ring pivoted on the barre...

Krag side-plate mount

<r>Recently 'John M11' asked in the 'Modified Krag Section' about scope-mounts that used the Krag side-plate. He has a model 1898 Krag that was 'sporterized' and has two widely spaced tapped holes in its side-plate.<br /><br />When I responded on his thread, I could not recall any scope-mount that u...

Re: Need help identifying Krag

<r>I would advise careful cleaning of old grease & crud from metal surfaces and bore. I start with Hoppes #9 on cleaning patches. For heavier surface deposits, I wipe the metal (and wood) with mineral spirits on a rag and 'burnish' dampened metal crud deposits with a popsicle stick. Wood respond...

Re: Need help identifying Krag

'halvy64': Welcome to the KCA Forum. Nice item to find during a house renovation! (There has to be an interesting story there).<br /><br />Your 'new' rifle is indeed a U.S. model 1898 Krag rifle that has had its (originally 30") barrel and stock forearm shortened. The original front-sight base ...

Re: 1901 carbine rear sight slide

<r>'Hawkster': I have never taken the 'Leaf Slide' apart on a Krag model 1901 rear sight. I never had to and it requires removing a small pin that retains the slide lock-screw. (Some Krag sub-assemblies you do not take apart unless you have to)!<br /><br />That said, my answer to your question is 'k...

'Reincarnated': Can you post a picture of the cover? How can one get a copy of 'The Single Shot Rifle Journal"?

Thanks for sharing about Dr. Hudson.

Re: 1901 carbine rear sight slide

'Hawkster': If you look under 'older threads' at the top of this Forum, there is a Joe DeChristopher thread. Ned Butts posted a working link, which will get you to the Joe DeChristopher page. You probably would need to phone him regarding such a part.

Re: 1901 carbine rear sight slide

<r>I would try contacting Joe DeChristopher or one of the gentlemen selling parts in the KCA classifieds.<br /><br />I have no leads on a model 1901 Krag carbine rear-sight slide. The rifle and carbine slides differ from each other. The carbine slide does not have to correct for drift as it moves up...
