Re: Happy First Time Krag Owner

'Gunnut69': That's a handsome looking Krag that you should enjoy using. How is the bore?<br /><br />The 1902 metal appears refinished (to a uniform shiny blue) in your photos. The earlier 1899 'cartouche' stock looks to be a nice Italian walnut one. It's nice that you have the butt trap accessories ...

Re: 1896 Krag Carbine, Serial Number 33690

'geo69jock': I checked the tables of "Serial Numbers of Known U.S. Krags", that are in the 2nd. edition of F. Mallory's, "The Krag Rifle Story". <br /><br />No Hit. <br /><br />#33690 falls between: #33671, 1896 carbine - (listed twice) 06/14/1899 & 07/07/1899 to Mr. F. E. Pr...

Re: Another Sub Target Gun Machine Krag?

<r>Here are some details of my Krag stock, which I believe was altered to clear the fixture for a "Cummings Sub Target Gun Machine". The rear cut-out appears very similar to the opening that was made on Model 1903 Springfields for a later style of fixture.<br /><br />(Stock is contrasted w...

Re: Another Sub Target Gun Machine Krag?

<r>Paul: I believe my 'modified' hand-guard probably was a replacement for one that cracked. (It's definitely cruder workmanship. My recent purchase came from Massachusetts -FWIW). <br /><br />The 'holes' on my 'STGM Krag Stock' are similar to those pictured for a modified 1903 Springfield. The modi...

Re: school guns

Franklin Mallory, "The Krag Rifle Story", 2nd. edition, (table on page 120, titled 'Phil. Constabulary Rifle'), indicates 145 went to Pennsylvania Mil. College, in Sept. 1906, and 40 in Sept. 1911. PMC was at Chester, Pa. (No mention of Carlisle).

Re: Another Sub Target Gun Machine Krag?

<r>My 'new' Model 1898 Krag arrived today. It was a GunBroker purchase and the price was reasonable. I knew it was a 'mix-master' with a 1903 production receiver in a 1901 dated stock. The bore is proving to be mediocre with some erosion and pitting, but, shootable. The metal will clean up real nice...

Re: bought a new Krag today

Bill: Nice looking Model 1898 Krag. The 1901 rear-sight is a versatile one. It looks like everything has been together for a long time and no 'buggered up' screws. How is the bore?
