Some comment on one here: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?193625-Danish-Krag-in-45-70 and mention of a 1950-51 custom-build "Gronlands Rifle's" conversions, in the rimmed 11.4X53R for further research on your part. Pics, when you get a chance.

Re: Questions about US Krag short rifle
A lot of Veteran's organizations had gunsmiths as members it seems. Why they didn't make it up like a known model, I can't answer. Maybe so that people like us on down the road would know it wasn't original. WAG

Re: 1898 Single shot Krag
<r>Well I managed to find a mismatch. I found the rear U mount, and a front N mount. They take different sized scopes, and use different sized screws, so we should at least be able to figure out if the holes on the receiver are anywhere near fitting either of them. First I have the U mount, which ta...

Re: 1898 Single shot Krag
I forgot about the mounts Dick mentioned, they go on the side, the pretty much accepted way to do it now. The U mounts I mentioned above also had a side option. They were some of Weaver's first efforts, introduced in 47. By the 50's he'd came up with some better ideas. I'm sticking with my idea that...

Re: 1898 Single shot Krag
The angle of the holes in the receiver reminds me of some old Weaver 1 piece rings. Some of them had a tunnel on the underside to allow a guide rib to go under. I can't remember the Weaver letter for those rings now, but they had screws that went in at an angle. I see a lot of old Savage 99s drilled...

Re: overbore barrels
Night Owl Enterprises has a version of the Lyman 311299 that casts .316" on the bands. The nose is larger than the 311 version if I recall correctly. Wow, a five cavity is only $98! :D I can vouch for the quality of their products, I have several of their molds. Sizing might be a problem, but a...

Re: Sight Screws
The 1901 sight has a different front screw that the sight pivots around. Believe it or not the screws are metric, a holdover from French influence in the early days of our armories. It is an M4 screw, but the pitch is 1mm and the standard pitch for an M4 now a days is .7mm. I've found some old japan...

Re: "new" Krag sporter
Most rimmed cartridges that I've fired come out of the gun with a more distinct shoulder than a factory load after firing. If the shoulder diameter has increased significantly, up to .448" and moved forward you might have an Ackley Improved chamber. My "Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conv...
