Re: Need Info

Matt,

Your Krag has been sporterized. The barrel has been cut down, the handguard is gone and the front sight is not original. It should make a good shooter, though. During the 1920s, these rifles sold for as little as a couple of dollars and it is very common to see them in that condition.<b...

Re: Need Info

Your Krag is an 1898 rifle and was probably manufactured in early 1899. Is it still in original condition (except for the buttplate)?

Re: Philippine American War Veterans

You might take a look at some of the links to sites specializing in the Spanish-American War. It wouldn't surprise me if they did have "lodges" but I would have no way of knowing for sure.

Nope - have one already -- would like another someday. This one is a 20,698.

New 1896 Krag rifle

I don't believe I've posted this rifle yet. It is an 1896 Krag, serial number 56974, which I won on GB a while back. The stock has no inspector mark but a nice serifed "P". The bluing has flaked off the right side of the receiver but the barrel is still nice and the bore is excellent.
<...

Re: 1899 Carbine Find

With an original rear sight and HG, I think $650 was a steal!

Re: 1899 Carbine Find

What about the handguard - does it have the wooden "hump" to protect the rear sight in front?

Re: 1899 Carbine Find

The sling swivels are an add-on. Is the front sight correct or does it resemble a 1903?

Krag "family portrait"

Here's a picture of the three Krags I have gathered to date. From top to bottom:

1) an 1892/96, 20698

2) Krag 1896 carbine #77205 - Ned identified the HG as a modified rifle HG but still happy with the purchase!

3) Krag 1898 rifle #436806. Bought it for a song - it needed some T...

New 1896 Krag carbine

I received my new 1896 Krag carbine last week and I am really pleased. Everything seems to be "kosher" except the front sight blade, which apparently is an 1898. The stock is correct, but may be a field replacement as no cartouche is evident, nor is a proof mark. The rear sight and handgua...
