Re: Weaver N5 Scope Mount Receiver Holes

Thought about it some more the number of holes in the receiver/thread ring are probably as important as not being near the edge of the receiver front. Tried looking for examples of holes drilled in Krags and only found one and its first hole was further back. Probably more to do with eye relief and ...

Re: Weaver N5 Scope Mount Receiver Holes

Drilling into the receiver threads is fairly common. It should not be a factor if not drilled too deep. I would not like to see a screw holes so close the edge that they threaten to break out. Photos would help see if anything is drastically amiss.

Re: 22 hornet what rifle twist?

Looked to see your location and do not see any. Do they have wild pigs near you? If so the 35 Krag would be good medicine for them. 35 remington has give a good account for itself on large game. The 35/08 has been said to be the minimum caliber for the "great bears". The 35 Krag is in a ha...

Re: Fully operational forum

Knute, it has almost been a month and only about 1/4 inch needs to heal up. I had a set back when I went to the regular doctor to get the stitches out. They worried about the strength of the healed up section and glued and taped it over. Bad deal as moisture got trapped in there and the skin on both...

Re: best place to get a new barrel and get it installed???

Hopefully the loose spots were just areas without as much leading. On your head space concerns, the real head space is in the rim area. The bolt receiver lugs can be worn or displaced with over loads. New old stock bolts can fix half of the issue at a modest cost. Not too long before the site went d...

Re: Fully operational forum

Maybe others were waiting to post like me. That is why I started this thread. MiddleFingerBOOBoo.jpg Attaching is sort of different. The middle finger there was caused by falling out of a 5 ton military fire truck. No idea how I did it. Been up in the attic from a ladder 20 times this week end with ...

Re: best place to get a new barrel and get it installed???

If the 3 "light" spots were not fixed with the thorough cleaning I would be concerned that the internal bore is swollen in those spots. That would usually be the result of stuck bullets and someone trying to shoot them out. If the resistance to a tight cleaning wad is uniform and there are...

Fully operational forum

Just got an email back from Josh working on the forum and it is now fully operational. I had held back in replying because I thought we would be making extra work for Josh and others building the new KCA forum. I could just see them blending in all the new threads and responses to the old saved foru...

Re: best place to get a new barrel and get it installed???

For a sporter that does not need a "correct" front sight any COMPETENT gunsmith should be able to do it. If the gunsmith has already done Krags he will already have a reamer and bushings for the barrel vice and could potentially charge less. There is nothing particularly difficult about wo...

Re: Value of a pristine 1899 Carbine?

Well it is beautifully done modified carbine. I see a 96 stock and blued receiver and hardware. Unfortunately not original. Others will give you more details. Dick's info on using Apple products will not apply if you are using a windows machine. <br />I right click on the photo to be edited and choo...
