War/Peace and Lessons Learned/Forgotten
This is an editorial from "Recreation" after the Spanish American War was over. The editorial promotes peace through strength and is still valid today.

<IMG src="http://i1320.photobucket...

Re: Armistice - 100 years ago, today.
I too had known some WWI vets in my youth. One that sticks out is the village barber. My hometown had a population under 500 and the barber was 2nd generation to the business there. Internal Revenue Bureau
The sketch below is of some Internal Revenue Bureau Agents preparing to collect taxes on alcohol and tobacco producers. They would find those making these products and would figure out the tax owed based on the volume. These taxes paid for such things as the Spanish American War. Sometimes, producer...
Re: Bad rap
And of course the Krag was used by other U.S. government agencies besides the military. It was even used on American citizens (criminals) by law enforcement agencies. I cannot readily find a period article I read last year, but the Internal Revenue Department even had the Krag in the early 1900's to...
Re: Bad rap
Being of Norwegian descent actually attracted me to find out what the Krag Jorgensen was about. I bought a sporter to get a feel for the rifle. Then when I found out that I had a Great Grandfather that used this rifle in the Philippine Insurrection and Boxer Rebellion it became my favorite rifle des...

The clip fed Mauser was one of the rifles considered. The Krag was selected even over this rifle due to fear of sold...

Re: 1898 Krag carbine ??
Looks like you really have something there. The front sight blade isn't a big issue, all in all, and can be easily replaced with the proper blade. Does the barrel measure 22" from the bolt face to the end of the barrel?

Re: Beautiful 1894 Krag Sold at Auction
That is a seriously great specimen and in amazingly good shape. I had no idea that a Krag Jorgensen would be worth that much, unless it was owned by somebody famous.
