Re: 180gr and 220gr projectiles

<blockquote>A little research on this forum will answer your questions.</blockquote><br /><br />Thanks Frank I have - and castboolits, thehighroad, the shooting times, etc - and it seems as though recommendations have changed over time. I don't know if the powders have or not, but I'd rather be safe...

175gr and 220gr projectiles

Got the cut down sporter all wrapped up, have some questions on the loadout.<br /><br />I've got two different projectiles to use, and a handful of powders.<br /><br />I've got: Hodgdon H4198, IMR4895 & IMR4350, Accurate 5744, Win W296 & W231, and Unique.<br /><br />I "believe" I w...

Re: Advice Needed on Magazine Feed Problem

Update, follower fixed me right up.

1896 follower did not function correctly in an otherwise 1898 setup. The dead giveaway was with the side plate removed and magazine closed, the arm did not extend past the exterior edge of the opposite (side plate) side.

Re: What direction to take this project? 1898 project

Hey all, I think it's finally good from a function standpoint.<br /><br />Replacing my clearly 1896 follower and carrier with an 1898 model fixed the majority of the feed problems. I still sometimes would have the last round hanging up just below where the bolt could grab it. Looking more closely at...

Re: What direction to take this project? 1898 project

Thanks guys - the 4x scope is a post style reticle, so no turning that one. The 2.5, however, is a duplex, so I can turn that one.<br /><br />The offset will take some getting used to, bit I liked the idea of no modification to the gun to use it. I'm excited to get this one to the range. I probably ...

Re: What direction to take this project? 1898 project

<r>Still working on this, but wanted to share. I know it's simple, but really enjoyed putting it together. Need to sort a loading/feeding and the butt plate issue, but otherwise looking good.<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/20200314_230617.jpg">...

Re: Advice Needed on Magazine Feed Problem

At the risk of bringing back a thread from the dead, I wanted to offer insight "for the next guy." I am working on a 1898 action with some 1896 parts. My research had led me to think the followers were the same, because vendors (Granpas included) list the follower as being for "all mo...

I've got a SMLE, but not the JC variant. Full power 303 with everything lightened and a 60yr old rubber butt pad? Yikes!<br /><br />And I may have found a 1903 springfield butt stock to try, I'm not sure on the contours, but it has the potential to be easier than starting with a rectangular block. (...

I think they should've issued those with the straight pull Steyr rifles!

Re: What direction to take this project? 1898 project

<r>An update before I get back into this again thanks to Whig, who traded the pretty worn rifle barrel/receiver for an already sportered barrel/receiver. None of this happens without his help, honestly.<br /><br />I ordered a side plate, rear barrel band, loading door, butt plate, rear sling swivel,...
