Re: Annealing
Just emailed Gary at Ballistic Recreations and asked some of these same questions. I also asked if I could use his thermocouple with one of my heat treat oven controllers. The Lee pot does not seem to like 1000F and fails at that temp.
I have read that 650F is the temp needed but requires a lon...

Re: Annealing
Parashooter I probably have done a few by hand that way. Also made a holder for the cordless drill. I have used tempil markers and they are difficult to see when they actually run, for color blind me. I put a bunch of Tempil marks on some brass to anneal later and found out the material is very corr...

Re: Annealing
I tried matching the colors on new factory annealed cases and found it difficult. I took a color blindness test and the result labeled me "extreme deutan" the report said that I see peanut butter as green and I said "Yeah, isn't green" also said I see green light as white, always...

Re: A nice long range rifle with a sad life.
With lubed cases I would worry more about bolt thrust than pressure. Back in the early 03 Springfield days lubing the bullets was necessary to prevent the stripping of the copper nickel alloy bullets from lining the bore. Sloppy application of the Mobil lube would coat the chambers and cause bolt th...

Re: A nice long range rifle with a sad life.
If a new bolt fixes it everything is good. If not a suggestion I have seen here on this forum may work.
Putting a wrap or two of dental floss ahead of the rim will hold the case back against the bolt face on the first firing, then neck sizing only after that as suggested by Butlersrangers. Your...

Re: Annealing
Thanks for the info. I had tried using molten lead setting the heat with a thermometer. Then coated the case necks with oil before dipping them in the molten lead. The lead coated the case necks sometimes and made a mess.
I assume the potassium salts cause no corrosion or embrittlement if you c...

Here is one recent thread:
http://www.kragcollectorsassociation.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1497923753
In this thread I did refer to a thread I started with some photos. If I remember correctly there is at least one more thread were another member posted photos of the tools he made and u...

Re: Paint fixes everthing.
Just checked with Numrich Arms and 1300 bands are available. So no shortage there. In searching for Savage bands installed on Krags there was some talk of them being a poor solution. Maybe it was the quality of the installation. Other than doing the original band installation that Local Boy did on h...

Re: Paint fixes everthing.
You kept stripping and it looked worse and worse. Now the stock looks good again. WOW!
What Butlersrangers said about the stock breaking is doubly important because of your forward sling mount. Carrying it with a sling will put a lot of stress on the stock.
The barrel band I did for Romeo...
