Re: 1898-1902 sight

jimmyzwei: The sight that you have 'red circled' is an 1898 rear blade that was altered by Springfield (corners radiused) to utilize it as a 1902. This sight's elevator leaf and blade appears to be still mounted on an 1898 base. If you have the sights in your 1st picture, compare the 1898 and 1902 b...

Re: Lt. Colonel Charles Blish Winder, Ohio N. G.

Dick Hosmer: You are correct about the spelling of Lincoln Beachey. The material I was reading had a typo.<br /> Lincoln had a fantastic 10 year career as a pioneer aviator and stunt pilot, inventing many maneuvers and logging a considerable number of 'firsts'.<br /> He managed to get himself 'banne...

Re: 1898-1902 sight

The 1898 and 1902 rear sight bases also use different flat springs and the springs are retained differently.

<r>I wonder if the sitting unidentified 'pilot' in this picture is Hap Arnold? Glen Curtiss and Charles B. Winder are standing.<IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/winder-g_curtis.jpg"><s>[img]</s><URL url="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/...

Lt. Colonel Charles Blish Winder, Ohio N. G.

<r>The Winchester (Browning designed) low-wall and high-wall .22 cal. rifles in 'musket' configuration came to be called "Winder Muskets". This was not an official name, but in recognition of the role played by Col. C.B. Winder in promoting the use of 'service weight' .22 cal. rifles in Ma...

Re: Krag carbine barrel ?

<r>I'm not sure what you mean by 'factory'. Parashooter's picture shows the subtly of the arsenal installation. If the front sight is gone, it is all academic, since the front sight will have to be a replaced. Sounds like you have the makings for a good "probable carbine barrel with replica sig...
