WTB-Sporter stock

Anyone have a sporterized Krag stock that they don't want and would fit my 1898 cut down rifle? I'm doing a pscout build out of it and think it would look better if it was in a sporter instead of the 1902 cut down rifle stock that it's in now. Send me a couple of photos. Could always swap stocks?

Re: Making the best of Bubba.

I might have one in my Krag parts box if you're interested.

Re: Making the best of Bubba.

A nice pair of Krags but I'm curious about the stamped handguard barrel band on the lower one. In my mind I've always associated stamped military rifle parts with WW2's more economical wartime production. Prior to WW2 things were machined from castings or chunks of steel, right? Or am I full of it?

Re: Krag with a Kraghaus mount-- opinions?

In reality we don't own any of this antique military stuff that we hold so dear. It might be in our posession and we bought it but we don't really own it. How many others have 'owned' these artifacts?I would never drill holes in pieces of history just to mount a scope. The Kraghaus mount is a great ...

Re: Krag with a Kraghaus mount-- opinions?

I'll agree with you that a nice pair of scope blocks on a boltgun's bbl are a lot classier look but they limit you to the one sized scope and shooter that they're fitted for. A long picatinny allows any sized glass or dot at any location. Hopefully my Krag will get a sporter stock before I'm done wi...

Re: Less than 22 inch barrel?

Removed the cross pin and drove the sight base right off with a mallet. No spline cut or step on the bbl. I will hit the small cross pin slot with a little blue and I'm done with the front sight. Looks alot better.

Re: Krag with a Kraghaus mount-- opinions?

Not caring for the 03 front sight, my plan was to cut and recrown the bbl but I went on line last night and saw how easy it was to remove so I took it off today. Surprise. There was only the cross pin holding it on, no spline or key, not even a step. A little bit of cold blue and that part is done.

Re: Krag with a Kraghaus mount-- opinions?

<r>The high QD rings in the first photo are too high to work with my carbine stock, the comb is too low. I had a set of low junky rings which work well with the carbine stock but I have to position the scope a little over the action to clear the scope base. I have a set of medium and low QD rings on...

Re: Less than 22 inch barrel?

I don't plan on trying to make a .30-40 Krag into a .308 hotrod. The rifles design has it's limitations. And I have no plans to hunt anymore. So just easy but accurate target loads will be created. But I'm toying with cutting the bbl as I've never liked the 03 sight on a Krag. It doesn't look bad on...

Re: Less than 22 inch barrel?

The potential scout/krag candidate has a 1898 action in a 1902 cartouched cut down rifle stock. The bbl measures 22 1/4 inch from the boltface and has a 03 front sight. The stock has an inlet sling swivel and a swivel on the bbl band. But also had a saddle ring mount screwed to the side of the stock...
