Re: I'm a newbie here to

<r>A picture of the stock's 'action area' will get you helpful feedback. FWIW: The model 1898 Krag action will fit in any U.S. Krag stock. If the stock was intended for a model 1896 Krag, there will just be an extra gap around the bolt handle seat.

(p.s. - I was wrong. The Weaver mount us...

Re: I'm a newbie here to

Like 'gnoahhh' and others said, the collectability is gone, but, if the bore is decent, there is a lot of utility and fun to be had.

If you are interested, I believe the scope mount holes are for the Weaver '#2 side-mount', which is still made. (They show up relatively cheap on ebay and G...

Re: Interesting failure NRA-UK report

I believe the K-31 Swiss mishap involved a .314" cast bullet in a .308" bore.

IIRC - The owner had some suspicion he could have thrown a double charge.

Re: Newbie intro

FWIW - The Appendix in F. Mallory's "Krag Rifle Story", 2nd. ed., lists four Krag serial numbers higher than "1911Ron's":

#488438 and #499036, (1898 rifles destroyed at New Cumberland, 05/17/29).

#497288, (1898 rifle sold at Raritan Arsenal, 07/15/22).
...

Re: Interesting failure NRA-UK report

SEE = Secondary Explosive Effect (aka - Detonation).

If I understand the basic theory correctly, there is a partial burn of the powder charge, the projectile moves forward and hesitates or hangs up, a pressure wave and intense heat occur, the remainder of the powder charge explodes creati...

Re: Newbie intro

'1911Ron': Welcome to the KCA Forum.

That is a mighty nice looking Model 1898 Krag. #4882XX is one of the highest numbers reported and would be at the end of production in 1903.

That Arizona Sun is pretty hard on wood. You should send it up to KCA member, 'psteinmayer', in Mich...

I like 'box-lock' shotguns

<r>I recently acquired a utility grade W.W. Greener, 12 Gauge SxS "Forester's" shotgun, built around 1895. The barrels appear to be 'single-iron Damascus pattern'. The bores are quite nice and I am debating shooting it with black powder shot-shells. (In all honesty, I am quite afraid of Da...
