Re: Purchased a Krag

Your photos came out fine. The rear sight is known as a model 1901. Minimum range is 100yds. It would have been original to a rifle in your's s/n range, which BTW was produced about May 1903.

Re: Purchased a Krag

220gr RN bullets are made by both Sierra and Hornaday. Remington and Winchester both make new 30/40 brass. The current Midway catalog has both for sale. Also get yourself a "Reloading Manual for the 30/40 Krag". It has a number of safe loadings for several powders and bullet weights. Note ...

Repair/restore Krag Carbine Scabbard

By good fortune I won the bid on a Krag Carbine Scabbard at Nov's J.C. Devine Auction. It was item 1182 out of 1215 auction items - a long day - but at $65 it was worth the wait. It is the model with the reduced end section for the carbine barrel (Poyer pg 192, Brophy top of pg 165, 1929 Bannerman C...

Re: 1896 Karg Receiver Questions

Mark:

The "1896" refers to the model of your Krag. A receiver marked 1896 would have been maufactured between Jan 1896 and Jul 1898, clearly a legal antique. Model 1896 Krags were manufactured as both rifles and carbines. If you put it up for sale, note both its condition and full s...
