Re: Reloading Info Needed
Bradley:

Welcome to the world of Krag. Reloading for the Krag is very straight forword. All the parts and pieces that you'll need are available from Midway, www.midwayusa.com. Remington brass is always available and sometimes Winchester makes an extra run. Both Hornaday and Sierra make 220gr ...

Re: WTK - Hand guard removal
Thanks Tom:
I figured I would have to invent some sort of jig to trick the handguard into thinking its still on the barrel. I assume that I just reverse the process to get it back togeather.
Keep up the fire

WTK - Hand guard removal
I have an 1892/96 Krag (s/n 18433) which has a damaged hand guard. I would like to remove it, repair it if I can (replace it if I can't) and reinstall it. Can anyone give me the best way to do that. As in most things, I expect there are several wrong ways to do this, but only one "best" wa...

Re: 1896 Sights
Neil:

Don't let the fun and newness of a new gun capture your brain. Your Krag has been waiting around for about 105 or 106 years for you to shoot it - take your time.

Go to www.midwayusa.com. Look at all the stuff they have and order at least a "30/40 Krag Loadbook" (product...

Re: 1896 Sights
Neil:

Of the four Krag rear sights that were fielded (models 1892, 1896, 1901 and 1902) only the 1901 and 1902 had windage adjustments. The 1902 also had a peep sight.

If you really enjoy shooting your Krag (I have five that are all shooters) I recommend that you look into reloading - ...

Krag sighting - s/n 73 (yes 73)
The Richmond Va Gun Show was held last weekend (Aug 24-25). There were seven Krags for sale. All in military configuaration (no sporters) and all nice weapons.

The star attraction was a 92/96 rifle with serial number 73. It was very clean and I would guess NRA fine plus. It had an 1896 rear s...

Re: 1896 Sights
Neil:

300 yds is the tactical range for the Krags 1890s job, hitting a target 18" wide by 5' tall - a man. Remember the only round that was issed to troops in contact used a 220gr round nose bullet with 2000 fps muzzle velosity. Those little pointy ended 180gr bullets that Winchester sel...

Re: SERIAL NUMBER QUESTION
Serial number is not specifically in Mallory's list. Rifle should have a 30" barrel, a 1901 rear sight (straight ramp) and was manufactured in the last quarter of CY1901.

How does that check out with your rifle? Does it have a cartouche on the right side of the stock above the trigger gu...
