Re: New member with a new to me carbine

. . . Many of us like to wipe our Krag stocks down with boiled linseed oil to keep the walnut well moisturized and preserved. . . I strongly disagree with the "boiled" linseed oil recommendation. Most products sold as "boiled linseed oil" today contain added chemicals intended t...

Re: New member with a new to me carbine

We don’t know who C.H. is. He also scratched a faint ‘13 under his initials. I didn’t see that until I cleaned the old dust and grime off of the wood. Based on the number of years it spent in the gun cabinet C H is likely long dead. Thanks for the info on metal finishes. What I thought was crummy bl...

Re: New member with a new to me carbine

Great info. Thank you very much. I did measure the height of the front sight. It is .355". Its a keeper for sure. It was owned by a friend's Dad, who passed recently. I spent a couple weekends helping my buddy sort through the old tools and other firearms, and helped loading dumpsters with the ...

Re: New member with a new to me carbine

I did note when cleaning the barrel/receiver, that the bluing on the barrel is very noticeably newer/nicer than the finish on the receiver and the other metal parts, Would it be possible that the barrel was replaced when the wood and rear sight were replaced?

Re: New member with a new to me carbine

You guys got sharp eyes! The serial number is indeed 131646. Here are some more pics. I'll get a couple of the sling swivels and the stylized P cartouche by the trigger guard. That it may be a 'real' carbine is good news. Larry Rear sight IMG_E1647 small.jpg IMG_E1648 small.jpg Front sight. Fuzzy ph...

Re: New member with a new to me carbine

Thanks for the welcome! I am a long time FAL Files member. I posted pics of this carbine on the 'Files and someone there sent me here. On the 'Files, there is a specific protocol for taking photos of your rifle. Certain things are requirements. Concrete, feet, mag inserted, and an adult beverage are...

New member with a new to me carbine

I recently came into possession of this carbine. Been in a dusty cabinet for at least 60 years. I cleaned the metal, wood, and bore and it came out pretty nice. No abrasive stronger than #00 steel wool, and no solvent stronger than Hoppes #9 and denatured alcohol. The bore had a lot of copper foulin...
