Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713

I did send an email to the service that did this replacement but also saw they are closed until next week so may not respond until then. This is my first (and last) barrel replacement. What is involved to realign the barrel? Strip down the receiver again and use of a receiver and barrel wrench? Does...

Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713

<r>Took it to the range and shot four loads with two different bullets and powders from a bench at 50yds. The 170gr FP wouldn't feed and wasn't surprised but used those first to get on the paper. No feed issues with 180gr RN. Two groups were round and two strung vertically but I'm sure those were me...

Re: Coping with Quarantine

<r>And since we like feet on this site......while sitting on a light post base in the hospital parking lot waiting for the flyby I hit the self shot timer and before figuring out what was happening got these nice pics. <IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attac...

Re: Coping with Quarantine

<r>Went out for a short ride just after noon today to see this F-15 flyby. The 104th Fighter Wing of the Mass Air National Guard did the flyby of 12 hospitals and two convention centers converted to triage facilities to honor the medical workers on the frontlines fighting this pandemic. <br /><br />...

Re: Can anyone use a set of 250 Savage reloading dies?

Nice article. Thanks for sharing it. Larry Koller in "Shots at Whitetails" (1948) was a big proponent of the little 250-3000 back when the "plodding " cartridges as Haviland calls them were more popular. <br /><br />The cartridge isn't very popular anymore and there's a slightly ...

Can anyone use a set of 250 Savage reloading dies?

I have a Lee 2 die and shell holder set for a 250 Savage I have had for 10 years and loaded exactly 36 cartridges for someone back then who never came back for more. Also have the remaining 64 bullets I believe are Rem 86gr flat point I was loading for a practice load I'll include. <br /><br />Would...

Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713

The rubbed spot on the inside of the extractor cut is in an area that is not normally blued on a Krag but because this receiver was mistakenly blued (which was the 3rd miscue with this job and ruined the original finish) it offered a visual contrast not normally seen at that location.<br /><br />It ...

Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713

Whig, <br />Appreciate your concern and for most situations it's probably the best advice but I have to report it is now working after very slight stoning of the right side of the extractor as suggested by BR. <br /><br />There was a somewhat complex story behind the story with this rebarrel job and...

Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713

Yes, I think you are onto something there. When looking into the cut with good light there is clearly a bright spot worn through the blueing covering most of the right sidewall of the cut. Most likely that caused the initial hard bolt closing I felt that got better after a few cycles but is still to...
