Re: range time
I learned to back off 10% when i bought a new lot of whatever powder brand i was using. You would work up from there. With a new purchase of powder 20 years newer then the last batch i would give a call to the manufacturer. Some powder is way different than its original recipe. They usually will giv...

Re: range time
The Krag is not that hard to load cast bullets for. I use Lyman no.2 alloy or linotype for casting. No leading of the barrel easy clean up (except for the 2400 powder). With the 03A3 i have shot some of my best groups with jacketed bullets. I will get it to shoot with cast. I can still shoot 30-06 a...

Re: range time
Thanks, i think both of these rifles will shoot well with some more experimenting. With some work i hope i can get 2" groups at 100 yards. Cast bullets are a different animal then jacketed ones but i enjoy making and shooting them.

In defence of these rifles you have to consider who was behind them too.[attachment=0]theshakiestguninthewest1968.89782.1 (1).jpg[/attachment

Re: range time
Well since there are no pic's of nice tight groups you can figure out how that went. The Krag shot better than the 03A3. I am shooting the N.O.E. version of the lyman 311299 bullet. About 210 grs.as cast. At 50 yards i had a 2"+ group with the Krag. The 03A3 group was bigger. I think the bullet...

range time
Got out to the range yesterday. Is there a lumber shortage? Out of 7 other shooters i was the only one to have rifles with a wood stock lol! I had my 03A3 and Krag rifle with. I was trying out some cast bullet loads. Nice young guy thought the Krag was a "jap" rifle. A shout out to "W...

Re: The Famous Krag Cast Bullet
That was the first rifle bullet mold i bought (1973). Sometimes i wish i had bought a two cavity model. it works in my 30-06 and 30-40 loads as good or better than my other .30 cal. molds. I guess i got lucky with mine, it has a .302 nose section when cast with lyman no. 2 mix..

Re: 30-40 brass
The last time i bought 30-40 brass from midsouth (3 years ago) it was headstamped by hornady. Not positive but i think this brass is also hornady stamped.
