I have some Mosin Nagant clips, so I'll have to try this. But I don't have any practical use for this method.

Re: Mr. Tom Butts
Just for clarification, many of us have our beloved Stormy Kromer wool hats. But they tie in the front and not on top like Elmer Fudd's hat does. It does give an illusion of being a bunch of Fudds. Maybe so, but we are much more refined when you get to know us.

Re: 1898 Rifle project
Even with a somewhat blurry picture, the rifling still looks distinct. Put that one in the plus column.

Re: 1898 Rifle project
Well, if that is what you want to do I will be cheering you on. Bringing this firearm back into a respectable condition is a worthy project. I restored a non-Krag rifle that someone had left in a damp basement where it was neglected. I'm not a professional, but the owner was surprised how much it co...

Re: Fascinating Rendition of a Classic!
Great memories of this song from the 1966 movie (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly). I would have been a young lad in the mid sixties watching the movie at an outdoor theater in southwestern Wisconsin. I'm such a fan of Clint Eastwood that I had to name one of my sons after him. The Danish got this son...

Re: Needing advise…is it or isn’t it?
So this is an 1898 "sporterized" Krag, presumably done for hunting needs, as others have pointed out. Period outdoor magazines promoted and informed readers how to modify a military Krag to be a good hunting rifle. Some were attractively done, like Colonel Townsend Whelen's Krag. Some were...

Re: FWIW - Conflicting Data
From what I gather following this forum, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, serial numbers were put on receivers before they were assembled into firearms. Firearms were not built in consecutive serial number order, which makes things difficult to be exact when determining when a Krag-Jorgensen fi...

Re: FWIW - Conflicting Data
Other questions to ask: How many receivers were made with serial numbers and never assembled into a complete firearm? How many were skipped with higher number serial numbers being assembled into a firearm? How many were used for repairs of previously assembled firearms? When were the last firearms b...

Re: FWIW - Conflicting Data
Maybe you should have somebody fabricate a BLT for you.

Re: FWIW - Conflicting Data
My table reads built "BLT.", which was my terminology. Springfield Armory actually used the term "fabricated" in the documents I used to make the table. They listed some firearms as fabricated with 1901 sights or with Parkhurst attachments, for example. So I gather that when the ...
