Re: Who got this treasure?

The buyer for the Rough Rider Krag has asked about his rifle on the Trapdoor forum at Trapdoor Collector. If anyone is registered there and SRS maybe you could help point him with some questions. He is apparently a subscriber to SRS, too.

Re: Who got this treasure?

You are correct. I am reading the number as "31", but it is not really clear - could easily be "81". If so, the number is in the "Gilda Radnor" file ("Never mind"). All 1895 dated Carbines are carried in Springfield records as M1896. I wish there was a clear r...

Re: Who got this treasure?

According to Mallory, it (27931?) was issued to Sgt Matt T. Mcgehee, Co G, 1st US Volunteers.Mallory then shows the same number being issued to Cpl Henry Kirch. Probably a logical reason, but I doubt it doubles the value. The lowest number currently known to have gone to the Rough Riders is 26784. <...

My fingers are wimpy and pruny, too. Come to think of it, most of my muscles are misbehaving similarly. I'll try a couple of tooth brushes..I only have old ones.

Re: Springfield 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine #35606

No hits in Mallory, but interesting numbers nearby. Closest carbine with lower number is 35597 that went to the 25 Infantry (probably for an officer). Closest higher number is 35741 that went to the 1st Volunteer Cavalry (Teddy Roosevelts Regiment) and that's a good neighbor hood to be in - only 135...
