Re: 1895 carbine model # changed to 1896 question?

During the entire era of the Krag, the only digit that needed to be changed was the 4th. Perhaps just the nature of that position was related to any number of potential flaws, flukes or failures that could occur. Maybe it should be a surprise that there aren't even more to be found out of, what, ove...

Re: New Database for US Military 1892 / 1894 Krags

How will you address receivers marked only "1895" or "1896"? Are they going to be considered "Models" or "Variants", like Flayderman, or something else? I find that Mallory's serial number lists apparently ignore the 1895 date on many carbines and lists them o...

Re: Tools for Krags

I called a friend and found out he had a small set of hollow ground tips and a handle that I could borrow. So far I've only used three of the sizes, but each worked very, very well. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all the screws I removed were not at all difficult. I don't think this thing h...

Re: Tools for Krags

Thank you! I'm thrilled to know that Brand is not as important as hardness. I have a couple of smaller sets that have bent rather than snapped. I also have had one in another set snap and I think both were trying to help rather than hurt.

I'll try a tip or two and see if I have any luck ...

Tools for Krags

What are the best tools to use to disassemble a Krag? What tools or brands would you recommend? Is there a good source for tips or procedures to follow? I don't want to damage a single screw. Thank you for any suggestions.

Re: New Database for US Military 1892 / 1894 Krags

"Mallory used some type of spreadsheet for his list in his book."

I have been trying to learn something about a Krag I just found and I'm running up against a problem with the data Mallory could make available in his Serial Number Appendix. My guess is that he, too, found limit...

Re: 1898 Krag Rear Sight Question

If you look in the "Ammunition, Reloading, Shooting, etc" section. you'll see somewhat close to the top, a topic on Reloading dies for the 30-40 Krag. This was in interesting discussion and the Lee dies were included and favored by some. Reloading is always a popular topic and you can lear...
