Krag Video

I just happened to come across one. It is quite lengthy, and covers history and development. Quite interesting. Some might have seen it already.

Re: Neck only re-sizing dies

Try a Lee .303 collet neck sizer die. Works fine for me. No lube needed. You can turn down the mandrel a thousandth or so if needed.

Re: Broad Plinking Load Question

I would go with the cast bullets. Use SR 4759 or 2400 powder for around 1500 fps. Easy on the gun and brass. I have found with cast bullets of decent quality and properly sized, they will shoot just as well as the jacketed bullets in the Krag. You will need a Lyman M neck expander die or equivalent,...

Re: Huber Krag Trigger

I was not planning to use this Krag for competition. It's been sporterized by the previous owner. I just use it as a cast bullet plinker.

Huber Krag Trigger

Does anyone own, or had experience using this trigger? I am considering purchasing one. Are they worthwhile getting, for the advertised improvement over the stock trigger?

Re: Reloading cast bullets for 1898 Krag

I have good luck using the Lyman 311291 @ .311 diameter, with 18.0 gr SR4759. I use a Lee .303 collet neck sizer, and Lyman M expander die. I get 1500 fps and groups run around 1.5 inches at 100 yards, from both my 1898 and 1899 Krags. At this loading level, the brass lasts forever, and can be loade...

Re: Resizing brass

I use a .303 British, Lee collet die. Turn down the mandel if necessiary, using a drill press with emery cloth, to get the bullet tension you like.

Re: Easy bolt check

You might try the Lee 303 British collet neck sizer die, for the 30-40. You could turn down the mandrel a thousandth or so if needed, to get a tighter bullet fit. I have had good luck with it.

Re: Cleaning Dirty Bore on Old Krag

I picked up a scoped 98 Krag with a #4 condition bore as described. I think it was fired with corrosive ammo and put away uncleaned for decades. I used Hoppes #9, Sweets 7.62, Kroil, JB Bore Paste and Bronze wool on the bore. The bore is still dark and patches still come out with some black on them....
