Re: 1898 Krag carbine ??

If the barrel is 22 inches and the front site is original, the Krag you have appears to be an authentic 1898 carbine! The serial number is definitely in the range of true carbines. It's not a guarantee but you can't have an authentic 1898 carbine if the serial number is out of the 120,000 area.<br /...

Re: 1898 Krag carbine ??

It's always so much fun to have new people join the Krag Collectors Forum and tell of new Krag acquisitions. Pictures are always great to go through and see what someone has found.

I would love to see a real 1898 Krag carbine someone has run across. They certainly are rare and often faked...

Beautiful 1894 Krag Sold at Auction

I just read the description and looked at the jaw-dropping pictures of an extremely early 1894 Krag sold in September at Rock Island Auctions for...$46,000!!!

I haven't seen every detail but it is serial number 33 with the original stock with a clear SWP/1894 Cartouche, a full front barre...

Re: new krag carbine

Since it appears that the stock has been sanded at some point, the cartouche most likely is a restrike because it is actually crisp and clean, unlike any that would have been weathered with some use and/or sanded.

But, it does look nice!

Re: This old Krag Rifle is new to me

A few observations in examining your nice original Krag shows the flat muzzle seen on the original 1894 rifles as well as the nice checkered cocking piece on the rear of the bolt. The flat metal butt plate was talked about also. The cleaning rod (ramrod) looks like it has some aging patina to it so ...

Re: Never though I'd have one

Looks like an old 1892 rear sight on a Model 1898. If you can find the parts that fit, you can have a nice Krag rifle for blasting away!

Re: new krag carbine

This does look interesting on first glance but raises many questions that we need more pictures to help answer. I don't see any pictures to show the muzzle end of this rifle. Can we get some nice close ups of the muzzle and front barrel band area? One picture shows that there is no front barrel band...

Re: Questionable front sight

Could an 03 band sight had been mounted and the original sight reattached by a skilled welder?

Re: Grandfather's Krag

Nice carbine as a starting point for restoration. The parts are available for doing a lot to restore this to "correct" but it will never be able to be "original". Collectors prefer "original" rifles and carbines but "correct" ones are valuable and collectible ...

Re: Help Identifying Possible Fake

The rifle you have is a fun version of the Krag rifle. Many of them are sporterized like yours is. They still can shoot well, if it is not damaged too much. Have the bolt and chamber checked. The bore needs to be looked at to make sure there are no obstructions. Even a well worn bore can still be a ...
