Re: Looking for a sporterized stock
Cat Man, I remember you very well :-) You were a big help, along with Paul and all the other guys, helping me learn to shoot CMP Vintage matches. I now buy Turner match slings for every rifle I shoot in vintage matches and had an extra one so I put it on my sisters rifle. I think it's probably a lit...

Krag Carbine Front Sight Base Location?
I know I saw this somewhere on the forum but I can't seem to find it right now. How far back from the muzzle / crown of the barrel was the front sight base located on the carbine? Was this distance the same as the rifle? I vaguely remember reading that it was (on average) about .430" from the c...

BR,
I agree with you. When I posted initially, I was basing my thoughts off the Poyer book which seems to have some questionable (inaccurate?) data.

Re: "Type 7" Handguard For 1901 Rifle Sight?
Sorry for the confusion. As mentioned above, I was trying to say the hand guard in question will only allow a 1901 sight to line up with the screw holes in the barrel. While the cutout of this hand guard appears to be very similar to a '98 / '02 sight hand guard, the dimensions of the hole only fit ...

Re: Looking for a sporterized stock
Yeah, they did a really good job. Precision Bluing in Creedmore, NC did the work. I used them because they were relatively close by and the price was good. It did take a few months but I wasn’t in a hurry.

Re: Looking for a sporterized stock
BR, you were a big help with the Krag action wrench nut I borrowed from you. It made putting on the new barrel pretty easy along with the barrel vice I picked up on eBay.
I’m working on a ‘99 carbine now and may need that action wrench nut again….

Re: Parts Interchangeability?
Gents,
Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. Looking at this, many parts look similar if not the same but it’s always interesting to know with certainty whether or not they are.
I guess I’ll try a few part swaps and see what happens.

Parts Interchangeability?
I'm curious if any other parts from firearms produced by SA are compatible with the Krag ie: were parts from other rifles also used on the Krag? If there is any compatibility, does someone have a list of these parts? I'm curious because I have access to boxes of small parts sorted between various ri...

Re: 1887 Enfield Martini Henry
I started with a pair of "As found" Mk IVs from IMA when they were cheap then picked up a pretty nice Mk II made in 1877 from a local guy. I watch a lot of the "British Muzzle Loaders" channel on YouTube and started loading paper patched bullets with grease cookies / cotton wads ...

Re: Restored 1898 Rifle
Scottz, unfortunately I didn't take any pictures during the assembly process. It was actually pretty easy in this instance though since the replacement fore end was already predrilled with a 1/4" diameter hole in the center to fit a 1/4" wooden dowel where it butts up to the original stock...
