Re: Weaver N2 / N3 Scope Mounts and 3/4 Scopes

I ended up finding both an N2 and N3 scope mount since my project receiver is already D+Td for them. I think, based on initial mock up, that the N3 is the better option. It places the scope a bit higher up and closer to the center line of the barrel / receiver.

I also found a Weaver 29S ...

Re: Looking for a sporterized stock

Well, Ive got almost everything I need to build a rifle (including a Buehler low scope safety). I need to find a lower barrel band / sling swivel and thats it.

At this point, I need to find a place to hot blue some parts and someone to install my CBI barrel and finish ream it.
<br ...

Re: Weaver N2 / N3 Scope Mounts and 3/4 Scopes

Local Boy,

Thats a nice rifle you've built. It also explains to me why the bolt sleeve on my rifle is ground down to the internal rivets. I hadn't thought about having such a large bell on the scope that it hit the bolt.

I've found a 3/4" N2 scope mount but I'm still look...

Weaver N2 / N3 Scope Mounts and 3/4 Scopes

Im building a sporter for my sister and shed like a scope on it. My receiver is already D&Td for a Weaver N series mount but Im not sure which to use. My stock is a sporter stock with a high comb so the sight level is fairly high relative to an original. Ideally Id go with an N3 in hopes it woul...

Re: Looking for a sporterized stock

Gents,

Making some progress on the rifle. I got a sporter stock from HeyJoe (thanks Sir) and some other parts from a buddy of mine. I bought a new Criterion Krag carbine barrel from the CMP as well.

I still need to reblue some parts along with the new barrel then have the barr...

Re: Anybody Got Any Trapdoor Loads To Share?

Bote,

I think the recoil is pretty mild actually. No more than my SMLE or 1903. BP is more of a push than a kick I think and generates significantly less pressure than smokeless.

You can load smokeless loads but I had no luck with it and hard cast bullets. There are guys who d...

Re: Anybody Got Any Trapdoor Loads To Share?

The book was helpful to me. I will also say, much like Krags, they're all a bit different and each may prefer a different load. There are guys who shoot smokeless loads with good accuracy but I have had my best results shooting FFg black powder. I actually started replicating original loads per the ...

Re: Anybody Got Any Trapdoor Loads To Share?

Bote,

I've been playing with trapdoor loads for about a year now. Two things I've figured out:

1. A flat based 405 grain bullet does not seem to work well in these rifles. You need a cupped base 405 or flat based 500 grain in a 20-1 alloy. Both these can be purchased, pre-lubed...
