Re: Winchester-Lee Navy
From somewhere, don't remember where and "the book" on the Winchester-Lee Navy seems to have disappeared, I recall that the USMC made some modifications to the bolts of the rifles when in service. IIRC, this was some sort of steel shield across the rear of the bolt. It seems to have been i...

Re: Cold Snap in Detroit
That Lake Effect snowstorm in Buffalo wasn't all that much worse than normal. Going to forestry college at Syracuse, my new wife & I lived in a converted summer cottage on the shore of Oneida Lake, located to get snow from Lake Effect storms coming off both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. We got hit...

Re: Krag Bolt with apparent crack
I used the Ken Waters "Recommended Pet Load" of 42.0 grains of IMR 4350 and a 220-grain (probably Sierra) bullet, which we now know is way too hot. Cracked the lug on my 1896 Bannerman sporter on the 3rd shot. I've had the rifle since 1962, bought it in a Chinese pawn shop on Queen Street ...

Re: Krag Board of Ordnance Rifle
The Krags in the Amoskeag auction were grouped together. Did anyone notice the Philippine Constabulary rifle? Was it legit?

Re: Krag Bolt with apparent crack
That's where they crack. I learned that the hard way, via Ken Walter's Pet Loads.

Re: 1898 Carbine Serial Number
To me, the replacement blade indicates that someone shot the carbine at a conventional 100-200 yard range. The replacement blade probably made it possible to get on paper in the first couple of shots.

Unless you were one of the kids in the pickup bed when your drunken Uncle Willy wrecked it.
