I was just wondering if anyone knew the reasoning behind adding the curve at the bottom of the buttplate of the 1896 rifle and carbine. I have looked a bit in Mallory and Brophy and, while they mention that a new buttplate design was used for the Model 1896, I didn't find a reason for the curve. Jus...
