Re: Repair of cracked handguard?

I have repaired cracked handguards before with epoxy. The trick is, obviously, not to epoxy the handguard to the barrel! Make sure both sides of the crack are clean and down to raw wood. Fold a piece of fine sand paper and slip it between the sides when they are together. One or two passes should be...

Re: Can anyone believe it??!!

WOW this has become a hot issue!!
I am watching the bidding on this gun myself and in the early stages had hoped to bid my self. When the price went over $1500.00 with a week left I knew it was out of my league by a mile. While these guns are an uncommon sight in this country I too believe that ...

Norwegin reloads

Glad to see you back Nord! Hopefully you or another of our members/guests can help. I want to reload for my Model 1912. Do you know a load to duplicate military velocity? What was the bullet weight and muzzle velocity for ammo used in the M'12?

Re: Hello

Hello again,
The scope mount you show is the same as Dad uses. His clears the safety. I am in the process modifying a mount for another gun as a scout style mount. My gunsmith is quite swamped right now and has had little time for "fun" projects! I'll let you know how it turns out.
T...

Re: Hello

Hello P Posey
The serial number of your Krag indicates it started life as a full length rifle. It was produced in 1903. No carbines marked 1898 on the reciever were produced that late.
From your pictures it looks like you have a nice shooter.
The work seems to be well done, the '03 front ...

Re: 1898 short rifle with 1909 cartouch

Hello Big D,
If your Krag actually has a 24" barrel then it is not a constabulary Krag as they were modified from Krag carbines with 22" barrels. Also no Krags were issued with 24" barrels so yours is a cut down rifle. That configuration seems to have been quite popular with the su...

Re: Shooting jacketed bullets

I would say that it depends on the condition of your bore and the amount you want to shoot. If the bore is is not already nearly worn out and you don't intend to shoot a box a day every day 365, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: 1896 Sights

Hi Neil,
I use 40 gr of IMR 4350 and 220 gr Hornday round nose in my full length military Krags. This load is a close match to original veloicity and works well with the Military sights. A couple of my guns with M'96 rear sights prefer only 33gr for some reason. Both loads seem to groupv well in ...

Re: M1898 Sights and Price

Hi Stu,
It seems to me that the "short" sight is a M'96 and wouldn't have been isued on gun with that serial number. Also it is unlikely that a military armorer, would have put it on a repair job as updated sight should have been available. While all parts are original Krag parts the on...

Re: Restoring a 98 Krag

Hello Dave,
It sounds like you have a great project for you and your son, restoring a family heirloom! In my opinion your best bet would be to get a complete sight. They are on ebay, auction arms and gun broker from time to time. S&S Firearms also lists them. Also check our classifieds you mi...
