Disregarding the serial and model year, the bogus front sight base is a dead giveaway that the barrel has been shortened. Original Krag front bases are dovetailed and brazed directly to the barrel. The base on yours, probably the 1905 model for the Model 1903 rifle, appears to feature a band around ...

Two things jump out in the photo -
- Front sight base is not original
- Handguard is the rifle model, not carbine with hump.
It appears you have a cut-down rifle. More and better pictures might help identify the stock.

While your Model 1898 Krag was originally quite similar to those used in the Spanish-American war, its serial number and the year 1901 below the acceptance initials (JSA) point to production after the war had ended.

You have described the markings on one component of a Danish Model 1889 Krag. More detail and/or photos would help determine if the rest of it is original or has been modified/replaced.

Although I own and shoot a Norwegian Krag, I've never put a single round of commercial ammunition through it - strictly handloads and the excellent Swedish M41 military ammo. <br /><br />I'd guess from your post that you believe the 6.5 Norwegian Krag requires different ammo than the Swedish Mauser....
