Re: .303 brit Brass?

'luvmy40': Is your .303 brass Boxer primed or Berdan? If you have military cases, they will most likely will be Berdan. <br /><br />Berdan cases are reloadable, but, require different de-capping techniques. Correct size Berdan primers are also harder to obtain.<br /><br />It would also be good pract...

Re: 1901(I think) Springer Model 1895, sporterized.

<r>'luvmy40': Welcome to the KCA Forum. It looks like your altered Krag was someone's 'Deer Rifle' for many years. I am glad you are having a good time with it.<br /><br />For many of us, our first Krag was a cut-down Infantry rifle, 'sporterized' to make it more useful for Hunting. They are not wor...

Re: Sideplate Scope Mount for 1898 Sporter

'John M11': The entire Redfield 70-K sight (with target knobs) is easy to remove and replace. It seems to hold its settings, if carefully replaced. It is probably easier and more 'repeatable' to remove the entire sight, than just removing the elevation/windage slide. (This is very tedious with its m...

Re: Sideplate Scope Mount for 1898 Sporter

<r>John M11: I see your point on the Scope. You hunt at longer ranges in Arizona than we do in the Michigan woods!<br /><br />Model 1898 Krag side-plates sell for $12 to $15. It would be worth your while to try a different side-plate.<br /><br />You are correct about the potential for some roughness...

Re: Sideplate Scope Mount for 1898 Sporter

"John M11": Welcome to the KCA Forum.<br /><br />In regard to your Side-Plate, I've got nothing! I have not seen that alteration to a Krag side-plate before. <br /><br />It seems like a bad idea. Any irregularity to the inside surface of the side-plate would risk causing cartridge feed pro...

<r>'muleyy': Your rear sight's spring (1898 model sight base) should appear like this from the bottom.<br /><br /> <IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/krag-1898_sgt-bottom.jpg"><s>[img]</s><URL url="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/...

Re: Questions on my 1899 Kraig

<r>'muleyy': Your Krag, #482456, was built as a Model 1898 Rifle, around September, 1903, near the end of Krag rifle production. Krag receivers were numbered prior to assembly and went into parts bins. They were not built and issued in numerical order, so dating is approximate.<br /><br />I agree wi...

Re: Production Dates for the Redfield Model 70K Sight

According to Nick Stroebel's book, "Old Gunsights & Rifle Scopes":

Redfield introduced the #70 Micrometer Receiver Sight in the early 1940s. It was offered with both the coin-slotted 'Hunter' knobs and knurled 'Target' knobs. Production of the #70 ended in 1964.
