Re: My 2nd Krag - Late 1903 Rifle in 1900 Stock

Are those inspectors stamps and numbers on the underside butt plate flap and on the boat handle?

My 2nd Krag - May 1903 Rifle in 1900 Stock

I picked up my 2nd Krag with SerNo 451574 and I hope that my Krag “collection” is now complete 8-) Couple months back I posted about the first Krag I had bought and it had the JFC overstamp on the JSA cartouche. It’s a nice 1902 that had the 1901 rear peep site that the Marines preferred and that’s ...

Re: Now think it’s 1900 JSA Dated

Finally got the rifle and was able to wipe stock down with a cloth and this either says 1890  or more likely 1900.
So I have a 1903 receiver with the 1902 rear site in a 1900 dated stock.

Re: 1900 or 1903 JSA Dated Cartouche?

Thank you for the picture of what the 1903 should look like. I zoomed in a little bit more in this picture and looking at the orientation of the 0 and then the last number to its right, I’m confident it actually is a 3 because as on your picture, the 3 is slightly canted to the right more than the v...

Re: 1900 or 1903 JSA Dated Cartouche?

What type of rear side is this on this rifle? Is this the 1901 rear site?

I think it’s a 1900 JSA Dated Stamp

This stock is on a 1903 dated serial number Krag Rifle and its cartouche it’s so worn down It’s hard for me to tell if it’s 1900 or 1903. The last two numbers are definitely different in their orientation and size which leads me to believe it’s a 3.

Re: Krag DCM sales document

That is absolutely cool! And right at the tail in of the great depression. $1.50 meant something in those days.

Re: School Rifles with JFC Stock Cartouche

Your post made me dig out my copy of Brophy’s Springfield 1903 Rifles and on page 569 under the listing of ordinance inspection and repair, he has a number of pictures of M1903’s stock cartouches and here’s one where he shows a box JFC stamped over the top of the earlier JSA script cartouche. Of the...

Re: School Rifles with JFC Stock Cartouche

Frank Mallory and William Brophy both wrote a chapter on the Philippine Constabulary/School Rifles in their Krag books. The chapters throw some light, but, also create some confusion, at least in my mind, on the subject. Brophy shows pictures of a Springfield Armory produced short rifle with a J.F....

Re: School Rifles with JFC Stock Cartouche

That’s what I was reading that there’s so many that are faked and I was hoping to see an example of one that people thought was real.
