Re: D-Day CMP Matches at Talladega

I'm going. I'm shooting in the JCGarand match, the Iron Man Garand Match and the vintage sniper (Swedish M41). I plan on shooting a Krag also. I bought an unfinished project a few years back that had a new Criterion barrel but it never shot great. I finally got some new actual Krag cases (instead of...

Re: Swede now in the family

Any advice on good hunting grounds for a Swede? I shoot an original A4 in the CMP sniper matches that groups well but the 2.5 scope with post can be challenging. A couple of guys in my club have the Swede and they shoot very well. What's an expected price?

Hornady 220grain RN Bullets

I can't find these any more...or 150 grain either. I was told Hornady would only make occasional runs. Can't find Sierra RN either.

Re: Annealing

FredC, my sniper match partner from south Florida has told me he thinks I am annealing to an excessive temperature based on pics I've sent him. He anneals with a fancy flame though. I follow the recommendations of others with more experience than I using the salt bath equipment. I was told that over...

Re: Annealing

I bought a "kit" from Ballistic Solutions in Canada. I think it was about $90 plus shipping.

The recommended procedure is 500-550C for 4-7 seconds. I set mine at 520C and soak them 4 seconds. There is a distinct color change. I agree that the heat transfer from the molten salts...

Thinking about building a carbine shooter

I'm considering building a carbine for vintage competition. I love to shoot vintage matches but there's nothing wrong with having an accurate rifle. None of my correct Krag rifles are as accurate as a cutdown with a 27" barrel I own. She has a Redfield no-drill and will group slightly over an i...

Re: Annealing

The potassium salts rinse off when you quench. I have a metronome app on my iPhone and set it for 60 beats per minute. The first "beat" is a higher frequency than the following 3 so I set the case in the holder on that one. I set the temp for 1000F and leave the case in the bath for 4 seco...

Annealing

I recently started annealing cases with the Ballistic Recreations setup that uses a Lee precision melter and potassium salts. The entire setup cost less than $150 and it's simple to use and consistent. I would have never considered annealing but my scoring partner at Talledega told me about it and I...
