Re: Boxer Rebellion II: Revenge of the Boxers

I've read numerous articles both ways on the China/Taiwan issue, and there is no consensus. One faction says they can/will - the other says the negatives for China are too great. You can also get wildly different opinions of China's economy and REAL military capabilities. Having said all that, livin...

Re: 1898 .30-40 vs 1894 6.5x55 for action stregnth?

The test Dick is referring to was performed many years ago by Michael Petrov... and demonstrated that the US Krag was actually incredibly strong. As Dick said... it took a LOT to cause a failure! https://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=211013 Rest assured, I woul...

Re: 1898 .30-40 vs 1894 6.5x55 for action stregnth?

I just wanted the info. I'm not converting either rifle. My question is "how strong is the Krag action?" With 100 K PSI on the bolt handle with the lug milled off, that answers my question. To clarify, and it is certainly there as a last resort, but the bolt handle was not what was used fo...

Re: 1898 .30-40 vs 1894 6.5x55 for action stregnth?

Cannot comment on steel quality or method of hardening, etc. between the two actions, but one salient point that I've always heard is that the Norwegian action was lapped, or otherwise machined so that the safety rib also bears on the receiver, providing almost double the locking surface in contact ...

Re: Boxer Rebellion II: Revenge of the Boxers

I agree about WW3 and the deep shit. The Donald is FAR from perfect, but he is, IMHO, way ahead of whoever is in second place. The FIRST thing we need to do is to get the Dems OUT. THEN worry about a more appealing candidate going forward in the future.

Re: Archie Bunker Was Right!

Well, Dick, you do live on the left coast where all logic is thrown to the wind! I wish to note that much of rural/agricultural Northern California is akin to the midwest, though "waterman", who lives relatively near me, is in something of a hot-pocket of libs. The rest of the state, howe...

Re: Archie Bunker Was Right!

Frankly my dear, I don't give a s**t what the patent shows, it is easier to snap off a few sheets one-handed, when hung the other way, and, is less attractive to cats. My cats don't like TP - they much prefer the paper towel roll in the kitchen, or worse yet if someone leaves a a PT (not TP) roll la...

Re: 71

I lucked into one, many years ago, at a yard sale in Marin County. The old man (I said it was years ago ) who'd owned it apparently could not figure out how to remove the bolt - which is necessary to get at the rear guard screw - so he just set the flopping bunch of parts aside, then, he passed...

Re: Muzzle-Cover 'jungle'

Good post. I know why (supply and demand) prices have gone up - what surprises me is the speed with which it seemingly happened. Fortunately, I am an old fart and acquired enough of them (but not nearly as many as Whig   ) when the prices were much lower, and before they started being repr...
