I like 'box-lock' shotguns

<r>I recently acquired a utility grade W.W. Greener, 12 Gauge SxS "Forester's" shotgun, built around 1895. The barrels appear to be 'single-iron Damascus pattern'. The bores are quite nice and I am debating shooting it with black powder shot-shells. (In all honesty, I am quite afraid of Da...

Re: Interesting failure NRA-UK report

<r>I'm not an Engineer or Metallurgist, but IMHO, this mischief was caused by extreme high pressure gases (due to over-load, under-load detonation, bullet/throat problem, compromised cartridge case???) blowing out the case head and allowing the gases to enter the action. (Metal fatigue or flaws may ...

Re: Swapping exectors & ejector pins

<r>'banjobill' - FYI:<br /><br /> I measured a model 1898 Krag ejector pin from my spare parts box. The length is .903 inches and the diameter is .095 inches.<br /><br />BTW - These original parts (ejector & pin) are often available on ebay for $15 to $25, as a 'set'.<IMG src="https://kragcollec...

Re: Swapping exectors & ejector pins

'banjobill': The KCA Forum does not have a very good "search function", but, there is lots of good information stored here. You just have to explore it (tedious, but, interesting).<br /><br />If you go to the Heading - 'Older Threads', there are 130 pages of topics, questions and responses...

Re: Swapping exectors & ejector pins

''banjobill": It sounds like your ejector pin is one of the two types used on the early 1892 Krags. The model 1896 and 1898 Krags use a pin that has the notch entirely encircle it. I'm not sure that your 'early pin' will fit into the side-plate correctly on an 1896 or 1898 action.

Re: Interesting failure NRA-UK report

Yeh, one forward lug, a bolt guide rib (fitted to make contact with the receiver, unlike U.S. Krag bolts), and the bolt handle root.

I guess my point was: The bolt was not the weakest link.

Re: Swapping exectors & ejector pins

<r>Both actions are model 1898 Krags. They use the same parts. Try cleaning the ejector pin hole with a pipe-cleaner soaked with Hoppe's #9. Clean out debris and hardened grease with a small jeweler's screw-driver. The Ejector Pin has a notched end, which remains exposed, when other end is fully ins...

Re: Interesting failure NRA-UK report

<r>Hey, that single bolt lug held and we have visual evidence that Norwegian Krags have left-hand barrel threads. I bet our shooters can come up with a better analysis of this accident than the 'Brits' did! <br /><br />(Those distorted case necks must cause a problem with neck-bullet tension. Deform...

Interesting failure NRA-UK report

<r>This 'catastrophic failure' of a Norwegian Krag occurred in Great Britain at a practice match in the Spring of 2014. It was investigated by the NRA-UK. The 23 page report was posted today on the Military Surplus Collectors Forum (under Krag rifles).<br /><br />The Norwegian Krag action (#32513) w...

Re: Butt Plate

<r>'banjobill": Welcome to the KCA Forum.<br /><br />Only the top hole is used on the U.S. Krag Stock for storage. The lower hole is to reduce weight.<br /><br />Attached picture shows accessories in place. The Krag oil bottle is much smaller than the 1903 Springfield and 1917 Enfield version.<...
