Re: Help me get on the paper
This Krag was wearing a scope. I assume it is not now. How far off target would it be without the front blade? Without the blade the front sight might resemble BR's Berthier and shoot way high.

Re: Disappearing Icons
<r>Just found this manual for my Model 25 Savage. Chambered in .222 and wears a three pound night vision scope. A 3 pound scope turns any rifle into a heavy weight. Shooting while resting on the car it will make a five hole group that you can cover with a nickel. Target was an X made from 1/8 wide r...

The first thing to check is always the magazine cut off. If missing or modified it will cause problems and or damage the cases.<br /><br /> Not sure if any one here has a list of similar threads, a lot can be learned by reviewing the other similar problems and solutions. Using the search function wi...

Re: 1899C bored for a scope
Nuts, I was hoping you had a carbine with a lots of parts worth a bazillion.<br />The carbine configuration is very handy and number of members have been sprucing up or building faux carbines from parts. No intention to defraud anyone, a faux carbine looks so nice if done well and yours has that loo...

Re: 1899C bored for a scope
You might post some more pictures of the rear sight, hand guard, and stock. Members here can give you insight as to the history what if any of the parts are untouched and have a high collector value.<br /><br />We all get old and scopes give us a chance to hunt longer. You may appreciate having a sc...

The rest of the story.
<r>referencing post #192 on page 13 of this thread. I cut the antler off flush, then finished plowing the rest of the field. I found what I hope to be the rest of the antler that was embedded in the tire. If not the same one then I have another one out there waiting to poke another tire. Mostly find...

Re: Krag barrell
Welcome to the happy place. An original carbine will have a larger diameter adjacent to the sight. Maybe the reason the cover does not fit. Many cut down rifles have 1903 sights added on which would be too large for the original cover. A photo will help the experts figure out what you have. Since yo...

Re: rebuild or not
I am a machinist and work with metal all the time and all I have is unanswered questions on the changes that plating then stripping the plating would do to the base metal. With some heat treated steels plating causes hydrogen embrittlement. (The KCA editor does not like how I spelled that word.) Wit...
