Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
Well, we agree to disagree then but thanks for all of the responses. Very informative material posted. I am not giving up on this barrel simply loading long and beyond the rec. COAL. I am now out to 3.1350 without issues (also feeds thru the mag no prob). I will go no further but am not 'in contact'...

Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
In my case, the casings are shorter after use than before if virgin casings, as I only neck size they stay about that but will stretch a tad during re use.... due to chamber width. That too is not overly common but common enough. Thanks, I am aware of that but scoping the throat area indicates what ...

Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
I see what you are saying so let me put it this way.... throat erosion is normal as is erosion of the barrel in the first 4 or so inches due to the intense combustion gasses. Exposing more of the throat leade, by way of excessive headspace, will increase that erosion footprint. I will guarantee I ha...

Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
The round will set shallower in the chamber exposing more of the throat leade to combustion exposure. The round casings with the old bolt had a great deal of powder residue. With the NOS bolt the difference is markedly different and clean spent brass. Just my opinion. Given that throat erosion is wh...

Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
FYI on rimmed headspace. The Forster NO GO gauge would go fully into battery with the old bolt. I just received my Forster Field gauge, and the old bolt would not go into battery with that...the bolt would partially close but not fully with the Field gauge. So, the head space was not at the critical...

Re: Krag 30/40 and accuracy vs. chamber/throat
I would guess that Criterion makes them all a bit 'proud' as the Brists would say so that a proper head spacing can be acquired. I was lucky in that a NOS bolt did the trick...Grandpa's Gun Parts (internet) has very reasonable pristine NOS bolts in cosmoline. The other advantage is a proper spec fir...

Re: What gives you the willies?
Fred, I was stung in the face by a Tarantula wasp about 5 years ago.... it was under a matt in one of our stalls and then the horse came in to be fed out 'it' came with a serious grouch on. All I remember seeing was this huge black thing before I got whacked under my left eye/cheek. Strangely I did ...
