Re: Reloading for 35/40 Krag
If you are necking the 30/40 case to 35 caliber you are making a 1/10 in short 35 Winchester case. Not sure how much 35 Winchester data is still around (let alone pressure tested) but you can use the starting load data as a guide. The 35 Win was used in the 1895 Winchester lever and had a working pr...

Re: Reloading cast bullets for 1898 Krag
We (SIL & I) use the NOE 311291 GC with excellent results behind 12 grs of Blue Dot in an 1894 and 1896 sporter, mild recoil and accurate. Have also used the Lyman 311041 GC with the same load, also mild and accurate but occasionally balks at loading possibly due its flat point. My 1894 also lik...

Re: Brass Availability?
Several months ago I e-mailed Winchester and asked about ammo, reply said it was on the list for a seasonal run this fall but no date set for production. If in dire need a company called HMS sells custom ammo loaded in new R-P brass and will ship. Even with shipping (assuming you buy more than a box...

Re: Magnum Primer - not the results I expected
Although your load is not a hot load remember that magnum primers can boost pressure. I don't know why you need them with 4350, it is not a hard powder to light and the Krag case is not a big case. I use magnum primers in my Garand with WIN 748, as there was an occasional noticeable delay with stand...

Re: Resizing brass
I anneal my brass and size only enough to ensure easy chambering. My cases fail when the neck splits which is the part worked by neck sizing. Even with annealing sooner or later the cases fail, nothing last forever. You can also neck size with a .308 Win die, adjust it so sizing stops at or just abo...

Re: Amazing Tolerances
The brass fired in my Krag and neck sized will not chamber in my SIL's Krag. Same is true of brass from my 03A3, if neck sized will not chamber in my SIL's A3. Think you got lucky.

Re: Krag Accuracy
Any rifle (Krag or not) is a crap shoot as to accuracy, some just do better than others. Remember the Krag is a battle rifle and not a match rifle, and 2-3 MOA is about par for any rifle in that category. Unless it is scoped or you have exceptional eyesight I think you are doing fine. Remember also ...

Re: What's going on with this brass?
I believe Hornady makes a sort of universal 30 cal neck sizing die. The die is available from most suppliers(if in stock). If you have a 308 Win die you can use that, Install die with about a 1/4 inch clearance from the shell holder and run a case into it. You will see an obvious line where it stopp...

Re: Just another handed down Krag?
Went and checked the screw in my 102K, mikes .122 in diameter and is not a tight fit. Said 4X40 because that is what it looked like to me. Despite a slew of reference books I couldn't locate one that had screw diameters to verify size. When I bought the sight there was a screw in a little bag marked...
