Re: Krag leather slings - new

Back when this thread was started I tried to find the following article. Finally found it. It's from 1906, just prior to the 1907 sling adoption. I don't think I posted this before, my memory is failing me. Pages 143 - 154. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Journal_of_the_United_States_Infantry_A...

Re: Finally checking in

Hey Rob, Looks like we are doing introductions here, so I'll go ahead with mine. My interest with firearms started with hunting deer in Wisconsin. First rifle was a lever action. Moved to Illinois as an adult where it was shotgun or muzzleloading only for deer. So I got into muzzleloading. Taken dee...

Re: Help please! What exactly do I have?

Can you post a full length photo of both sides and some of the stock forend? Maybe some more clues on the story of this Krag. If not an original carbine, at least it is a good representation of what one would look like.

Re: Help please! What exactly do I have?

Hi Jolson185. I'm not a top level expert, but I'll throw some generic things out there to get this going. What is the length of the barrel from closed bolt face to the muzzle end? Is the front sight a banded type or does it appear to be soldered to the top of the barrel? Does it have a hand guard? I...

Re: 1894 Bayonet Production

Comparing the Krag count I put together a few years ago (based on Ordnance Reports for each fiscal year) to Hartman's posted by MooseNuggent, there are some numbers that match in the rifle column. Not saying that he is wrong and I'm right (8 out of 11 entries match). His rifle total is 410,840 and I...

Gen'l Crozier and the Krag During WWI

Below are some articles with some discussion of the Krag as it relates to the Springfield and the Enfield during the Great War by General Crozier. The first link is from a House Subcommitee on page 724. The second link is from a December 1917 "Iron Age" periodical on page 1513. https://www...

Re: Dodard and Chief

Took me a while to catch on. I came of age during the Disco Era, wore the off-white bell bottoms pants, black terry-cloth shirt with large collar, platform shows......But never danced to the YMCA song by the Village People. At first I thought this etching was referring to Jason Aldean's recent hit. ...

Re: Mosin Nagant Clips

I believe using Mosin Nagant clips would be more of a novelty than for practical use. I too see that the cartridges lay too loose for hunting or competition use. But thought it was neat to try just once. There was more than one video by multiple people using this technique, so the idea must have got...
