Re: World's largest Buffington sight
Thanks BR! I'll have another thing yet to watch some videos and do some research on. That looks like a very good condition No5! And a No5 bayonet to go with it, I need to add a No5 bayonet to my collection. Is that a Swedish M94? If so I hear the 6x55 Swedish is one soft shooting round, I bet that f...

Re: World's largest Buffington sight
Something about the Buffington sight just seems distinctively American and gives it much interest to me, tangent mauser sights well useful and likely better battle sights just don't have the same appeal to me. Now for shooting I prefer a peep sight like that found on the m1917 or No4 enfields, I hav...

Re: World's largest Buffington sight
BR I did think that the sight looked like a 1903/1917 hybrid, but a No1 enfield has the micrometer elevation as you said. The windage adjustment is what really got me thinking Buffington, although it lacks the tangent adjustment on the base. Now my experience with the m79 is limited to call of duty,...

World's largest Buffington sight
Not sure if it's truly the largest but it is a pretty neat take on the Buffington sight by winchester in the mid 1940s, here is a link to the video https://youtu.be/-RvpWYBDruE Scroll to 11 minutes 17 seconds for a upclose demonstration of the sight. Re: Winchester Brass
Once Graf brass is properly sized down to fit your chamber I have had decent life out of it with 8 reloads and full length resizing, I lost one case after 4 (a small blowout on the shoulder) and after 7 I lost another case due to the same thing. Graf brass extra long shoulder may be of use to those ...

Re: Rust Bluing and stock finishing
Thanks! Not specific to Krags but this rust blue method also works very well on scrubbed crests on mausers, blends much better than cold blue which is off color.

Re: Gun Identification
It's a 91/30, likely chambered for 762x54R but sometimes Mosins were rechambered by bannerman for 30-06, a chamber casting would be the only sure way to tell if it's been messed with or not, likely no but something to be aware of. Looks like you also have the bayonet, if it's serialed to the rifle i...

Re: Gun Identification
Looks like a mosin nagant 91/30, maybe just a 91, I'm not an expert on them but it is a Mosin Nagant.
Overall length for a 91 is 51.25 inches
Overall length for a 91/30 is 48.75 inches

Re: New member looking to learn
A trick I like to do when I get a new old rifle is to steam it! Yes I said steam, get yourself a cheap stock pot with lid, a pvc toilet flange, 4 foot peice of 4inch pvc, pvc pipe cap and some hardwood dowel, assemble what I call a steam apparatus by screwing the toilet flange to the stock pot lid, ...

Re: Gunbroker auction - 96 carbine
I was also following this auction although not as a bidder, what I took notice of was the crack at the tang in the stock, the crack just behind the magazine extending to the bolt handle cut out, the repairs in the stock seemed post military and the bore had what I consider significant erosion with a...
