Re: Funky 98 receiver

Shouldn't hurt to try to spread it out. I put my Madsen, which also has a split bridge in a vise once. It got squished down in the same manner, bolt was a no go. Bad news is, I can't recall how I got it back out where it needed to go, but I know I didn't cut on the receiver or bolt.

Re: Rear sight

I had a friend take his handguard off the way Dick doesn't recommend. It was a model 98 with a 96 rear sight. I cringed as he pulled it up, and told him he was lucky, those things are over $100! I can recommend the reproductions sold on ebay, or here: http://www.partsforantiqueguns.com/Krag%20%28Spr...

Re: Safety issue

I think, if you pull your safety out, you'll find there's a hole on the shaft for a little spring that keeps just a wee bit of tension on it. Just enough to keep it from flipping around on its own. I've got one of those around here somewhere still in the package, but moved recently, it's just somewh...

Re: Something Really Interesting

I have to admit, I know very little about such mounts. I did find that there are two main types, illustrated at the link above (homepage, bottom left, click). Maybe you could contact that fellow with some measurements.

Re: Need some help on 1st krag

Didn't catch this in time, there was a repairable 96C stock on gunboards forum, but it's been sold.

Re: Reloading for my 1898 Krag Rifle

<r>Sounds good Keith, wish I'd had that assortment to play with. I used the .310 diameter, 123gr Hornady V-max out of a .310 groove diameter Krag at one time. The load shot a couple 3 shot 100yd groups each of which was less than an inch. I'd made a scope adjustment between the upper and lower group...

Re: Something Really Interesting

If the mounts are high enough for that big objective bell, I'd love either the 16 or 24x. Of course if the mounting blocks aren't high enough, I'm sure you could find a higher set. Something to check, once you get it, is the throat. It may have been cut for spitzers rather than the long roundnose. I...
