Re: picked up my first krag
walrus: Welcome to the Krag Forum and the 'World of Enjoying Krags'. I hope you enjoy your Range Session. You should give us more details on your Krag (i.e. barrel length, current sights, stock status). If you can post some photos, you will get lots of information from helpful members. There is a lo...

P. Armstrong: There is lots of useful information to be found on the KCA web site. You can search various topics by using the search window. If you mouse click on "Visit the KCA Website Today", you go to a Main Page that allows you to click on "photos". This will access lots of i...

Re: Krag sideplate
MadFarmers: Like yourself, I own Mallory's, Bropy's, and Poyer's books. I enjoy all three (along with ordnance manuals and KCA Forum contributions). I find that they complement each other. IMHO, Poyer's Book supplies lots of useful photographs and parts details. It helps me more fully enjoy the evol...

Re: Here is the rifle with the 1900 cartouche
Guts: You have a very nice rifle with interesting features like the "headless" cocking piece and an 1898 rear sight modified to 1902 configuration. I believe your serial number dates from November, 1900. The condition of your rifle appears very good. Your stock appears to have a very nice ...

Re: Krag sideplate
My point is that these parts are not hard to find or very expensive. Also, it helps to have Joe Poyer's Book.

Re: Rear sight disassembly
The part you have that is broken does not adjust windage. It locks the slide that controls elevation by its position on the radius of the sight base. You can remove the sight leaf from the base by driving out the pivot pin (left to right) with a brass punch. Maintain pressure on the leaf and its spr...

Re: Please help me in dating my rifle.....
goodwood: As Dick Hosmer reported, you must be reading a "3" as an "8" at the begining of your serial number. #349,589 would have been produced in October 1901 per Joe Poyer's book. Highest U.S. Krag numbers were probably around 474,xxx, with production ending around November 190...

Re: Krag sideplate
pahoghunter: The 1896 and 1898 U.S. Krags basically use the same sideplate. Very early Krags had some minor differences and the plates were sometimes numbered to the action. Joe Poyer's book describes the minute changes. Sideplates are retained by one sideplate screw. These parts are often available...
