Re: Building a sporter

Since they're already unsightly and have ruined the collector's value, I like the idea of threading screws in the holes and grinding and filing them flush inside and out. I have seen some well done examples of this. More controllable than welding unless you are very skilled. That's assuming you can ...

Re: 1898 shooting way high

That's really neat to find two rifles that shared battle together 120 years ago!

Re: 1895 carbine model # changed to 1896 question?

As I have had to do many times with coins, I have needed to use a magnifying glass to determine the difference between an overstrike and a die or stamping error. Deep stamps can be confusing as we know with the "3" and "8" stamps on Krags. A small piece of metal in the die upon s...

Re: 1895 carbine model # changed to 1896 question?

<r>This is a known anomaly of which I have never heard of a good reason for. It is not contained to the 1896/1895 dates as in your example.

I have one of these also. Mine (below) is an 1899 over 1898 strike. This is on my PC Krag rifle. It has been referred to as "rare" or "...

Re: San Francisco In 1900

I liked seeing the guy walking just casually jump in the back of an open bed to hitch a ride. Maybe it was a precursor to Uber.

I also wondered who actually was filming this, obviously from the front of a moving vehicle, and why was it being filmed?

Real neat! Thanks. (I could ...

Re: Help with evaluation please

Those M1896 carbine hand guards are so fragile, I have repaired the front wood ring on a couple myself through fabrication. I wouldn't care if yours were original or not! I'd buy them and use them!

Good luck. Nice pieces. How much do you want for each?

Re: Springfield Research Service 4 Volumes

There are definitely unknowns out there waiting to be discovered! Don't ever think otherwise or the search is over for most of us!

Can't imagine how many will continue to trickle in discovered in an attic or closet for generations. People die who have accumulated firearms over years and e...
